A string of Tiffany & Co. ads featuring Elle Fanning recently surfaced on a quiet block in Hamilton Heights–not the first part of Harlem you'd think the luxury jeweler would pick to unveil the campaign for its new Tiffany Paper Flowers line.
But a deeper look into the campaign offers some clues. For one, it was launched with a dreamlike video of Elle Fanning standing in front of a Tiffany window–and the short is accompanied by a remix of "Moon River," sung by the actress and A$AP Ferg.
And the rapper, it just so happens, grew up in Harlem. In fact, the spot where the Tiffany ads can be found is just steps away from Ferg's old stomping grounds on 143rd Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.
The partnership is just the latest collaboration between a luxury brand and a hip hop world star (others have included Jay-Z and Dapper Dan)–but it probably won't be the last. After all, the siren call of opulence is hard to resist.
"I come from Harlem, which is a long way from the famous Tiffany flagship on Fifth Avenue," Ferg said in a statement released with the song. "But because I went to the High School of Art and Design in Midtown, I’d have to walk past the Tiffany store every single day on my way home. It was just years and years of me walking past Tiffany, never dreaming one day my face, my voice, and my lyrics would be part of their story. That’s a real dream, in real life."
