Improvements to the infrastructure surrounding Montefiore Square in Hamilton Heights have been underway since the fall of 2016.
Now the city has announced plans to renovate and expand the park, giving a new completion date: Summer 2020.
The $15.5 million revamp will triple the size of Montefiore Square by expanding the park east into what is now Hamilton Place.
It will also include a new terraced lawn with built-in seating and a small plaza for local festivals, performances and green markets.
The area has been a major construction zone these last two years as workers have been digging up the streets and sidewalks around the park to upgrade water mains, sewers and catch basins.
According to signs first posted in the area, the revamp was scheduled to end in December 2018, and earlier this year the date got pushed to February 2020.
