Foot Locker has chosen Washington Heights for its first ever Power Store in New York, located at 605 W 181st Street. Like its two other U.S. "power" locations in Philly and Detroit, this 9,000-square-foot retail destination has been built not just with the community in mind, but with tons of immersive technology to add a more personalized and interactive feel. For the best experience, you'll definitely need your phone.
Here are four things to know about this location, which opens tomorrow at 10:30am.
1. It has a special partnership with Nike
Foot Locker has teamed up with the footwear giant for digital perks exclusive to the Washington Heights store, where a little more than half the merch is Nike. (Other brands include Adidas, Reebok and Champion.)
Here's where the phone comes in: Download the Nike app to scan any product and check for availability, price and sizing. Or use it to reserve Nike products online and have them delivered directly to the store.
There's also a digital pass on the app that lets you score free goodies like shoelaces, sunglasses and phone chargers at a special vending machine on the ground floor. Scan it upstairs at the ShoeCase machine for a chance to buy the latest must-have sneaker (featured behind glass) before anyone else.
2. There's an entire corner dedicated to Air Force Ones and Air Jordan Ones
Having done their research, the folks at Foot Locker have built a second-floor corner dedicated to two of the most popular local styles: Air Force One and Air Jordan One. Now that's knowing your customer.
3. Local designers share space with big brands
Foot Locker has teamed up with three local designers, including Triangulo Swag from Washington Heights and Perico Limited from the Bronx, to sell tees and more in the second floor's community store. "Stay Out of Uptown Thank You!" tee, anyone?
4. It's hosting a week's worth of opening events
Tomorrow's grand opening kicks off a series of events at the store next week, concluding with a group run next weekend. Join the party.
