Mexican spot Cocina Consuelo was just named a New York Times Critic's Pick.
The restaurant, which opened last summer at 130 Hamilton Place between W 142nd and W 143rd Streets, received two stars from the paper in a review published on Tuesday.
Of chef Karina Garcia's cooking, the Times wrote: "She marries bone marrow with birria, salsa macha with Cheddar. And she has dreamed up one of New York’s best breakfasts: a sturdy masa pancake lacquered with honey butter and wearing a crown of stewed blueberries that tumble down the side."
The Times review caps off a long list of gushing mentions in the media over the last six months, including ones in Grub Street, The New Yorker, and The Infatuation.
Run by Garcia and her husband Lalo Rodriguez, Cocina Consuelo started as a supper club in the couple's Harlem home during the pandemic.
The restaurant is open from Wednesday to Saturday for breakfast and lunch (8am-2pm) and dinner (5pm-9pm), plus Sunday from 9am to 4pm. It does not take reservations.
