It's the iconic High Bridge's 175th birthday—and you're invited.
The NYC Parks department is celebrating the city's oldest standing bridge—built in 1848 to bring clean water to the city and today a breathtaking pedestrian and bike path connecting Manhattan and the Bronx—with a public party on Tuesday, June 6 from 10am to noon.
The event promises to help you "travel back in time" with free tours of the Manhattan Gatehouse and the 200-foot-tall Water Tower, which was fully renovated a few years back.
There'll also be music courtesy of the Highbridge Voices.
If you're coming from Manhattan, enter Highbridge Park at W 172nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Washington Heights, then take the High Bridge Water Tower Terrace staircase down to the bridge; if you're coming from the Bronx, enter at University Avenue and 170th Street in Highbridge.
