New Mexican spot Cocina Consuelo has opened at 130 Hamilton Place by W 143rd Street in Hamilton Heights, Harlem.
Run by young husband-and-wife team Karina Garcia and Lalo Rodriguez, who is from Mexico, the restaurant and cafe serves food inspired by Rodriguez's grandmother's recipes.
The small eatery, painted on the outside in gemlike blues and greens, has roots as a pandemic takeout business that morphed into a supper club in the couple's uptown apartment.
Currently open for breakfast and lunch (7:30am-5pm), Cocina Consuelo has a cafe menu that includes hot and cold coffee in flavors like coconut and dulce de leche doughnuts.
There are also more substantial dishes like quesadillas made with hibiscus, Oaxacan cheese and chipotle, plus a "Cesar's salad" prepared with homemade dressing and herb crumble.
The restaurant will begin dinner service this Friday.
