The Studio Museum in Harlem's New Building Finally Has an Opening Timeframe: Fall 2025

The Studio Museum in Harlem finally has an opening timeframe for its new building.

The highly-anticipated 82,000-square-foot space at 144 W 125th Street between Lenox Avenue and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard—replacing the museum's old building in the same location—is set to open its doors in the fall of 2025, according to a museum press release.

The museum plans to inaugurate its new David Adjaye-designed home with an exhibition featuring the work of artist Tom Lloyd—who was also the subject of the Studio Museum's first-ever show in 1968. Approximately 20 artworks by Lloyd will be exhibited in the building's barrel-vaulted, double-height ceiling gallery.

Works from the permanent collection from artists such as Romare Bearden, Dawoud Bey, and Jordan Casteel will be installed on the second and fourth floors.

The museum will also have a roof terrace, designed by Harlem-based landscape design firm Studio Zewde.
