Two new spots with well-known sister establishments in the neighborhood have opened one block from each other in West Harlem.
Winnie Said, a new hangout from the Harlem Public team, just opened at 1624 Amsterdam Avenue and W 140th Street. It calls itself a "hillside cabin" on its website, and a peek through the windows reveals motifs including raccoons and deer antlers.
On the menu is "rustic elevated bar food," plus beer and cocktails, according to a preliminary page on food delivery service Toast. The corner space used to be Grill on the Hill sports lounge.
One block south is Fumo Caffe e Vino, which opened at 1608 Amsterdam Avenue between W 139th and W 140th Streets on Monday. The stylish Italian coffee shop by day/wine bar by night is brought to you by the Fumo gang (the original Fumo restaurant, which now has four locations across the city, is just across the street).
The day menu includes espresso-based coffees, teas and light meals like avocado toast and bacon, egg and provolone cheese sandwiches. The evening menu, which comes out at 4pm, features a build-your-own charcuterie board plus dips like whipped ricotta that can be paired with a long list of wines by the glass and bottle.
